Super Bowl LX, DISTRITO T-Mobile
For Super Bowl LX, DISTRITO T-Mobile commissioned me to create four custom pairs celebrating the game and a halftime show that carried a different kind of significance for Puerto Rico.
Two of the pairs represented the New England Patriots and Seattle Seahawks, the Super Bowl finalists. For each one, I reconstructed the sneakers using vintage team jerseys, taking something already connected to the history and identity of each franchise and giving it a new form.
The other two pairs shifted the focus back home, celebrating Bad Bunny and Puerto Rican culture during what became a historic moment for Latin music and representation.
For one of them, I started with a Gazelle Indoor from Bad Bunny's collaboration with adidas. The challenge was figuring out how to take a shoe already connected to him and give it an entirely new story.

That piece became Relato del Jíbaro.
The concept pulls from cultural elements present throughout Bad Bunny's Debí Tirar Más Fotos project. At the center of the design is the flamboyán, translating the tree's vibrant color and texture onto the sneaker while contrasting it against a more neutral palette inspired by traditional jíbaro clothing.

A subtle blue Gazelle graphic introduces a reference to the Puerto Rican flag without making it the center of the design. The pava hat then becomes the defining element of the pair, bringing one of the most recognizable symbols of the jíbaro directly into the silhouette.

I wanted each decision to have a reason for being there. Rather than placing Puerto Rican symbols onto a sneaker, the goal was to understand how color, material, texture, and form could work together to tell a story.
That's ultimately what Relato del Jíbaro became for me. It was an exercise in translating research and cultural references into a physical product while still allowing the craftsmanship and original silhouette to speak for themselves.

Creating it around a halftime performance that became part of history for Puerto Rican and Latin culture made the project even more meaningful.
It was more than a custom pair for the Super Bowl.
It was a chance to tell a piece of our story through footwear.
